EIGHT CLAY FIGURINES FROM NISYROS AT BERLIN MUSEUM

Our good friend, archaeologist Melina Philemonos-Tsopotou, wanting to contribute to our effort to collect data on Nisyrian works of art found in foreign museums, informed us of the existence of eight clay figurines from Nisyros at the Antikensammlung Staatche Museum.

Having seen the good intention of the people in charge of this museum, in the case of the kind sending of a photograph and other information about the marble figurine from Nisyros, which is also in the same museum and for which there is a special section in this Chapter, we addressed again to the museum and with the kind mediation of Mrs. Philemonos, they sent free of charge, the wonderful photos which follow, provided that their reproduction is not allowed for any other use, except the publications of our Society. These figurines were donated to the museum, at the end of the 19th century by the great philhellene and member of the Academy of Athens Hiller von Gaertringen, except for the figurine with number, TC 7612.

We quote these photos, with our warm thanks to Dr. Martin Maischberger for his willing response to satisfy our request and of course to Mrs. Melina Philemonos-Tsopotou for her continuous help and research for the compilation of the short history of each figurine.
